Mihai Razvan Ungureanu was named Monday evening to head the government of Romania following President Traian Basescu's consultations earlier in the day with the delegations of parliamentary parties.

Prime Minister designate Mihai-Razvan Ungureanu said, on Monday evening, that his political independence guarantees the needed space to fulfill his mandate.

"It is a great responsibility that I consciously assume, both the difficulty of such a position, and especially given the sensitive context we are now. I have experience in some institutions that, under my mandates, modernized and performed - MAE, SIE. I intend to use this experience to improve the governance, and my political independence guarantees the needed space for the fulfillment of this mandate", said the Prime Minister designate.

Prime Minister Emil Boc on Monday morning announced his decision to tender the resignation of his Cabinet.

'I have tendered the resignation of my Cabinet because I am not clinging to power. To the country, it is extremely important that there is economic stability and that we may win together with Romanians. We have taken very tough decisions. Those decisions we took thinking about the future of Romania, not because we wanted to but because we had to,' said Boc. AGERPRES
