Euro-barometer: 57% of Romanians consider European agriculture and rural development very important
Publish date: 01-04-201057% of Romanians consider the topic of agriculture and rural development at European level very important while the EU average is 46%, and Eurobarometer study published on Tuesday by the European Commission shows. The largest proportion of those who consider agriculture as very important was registered in Greece (68% of the population) and the smallest in Lithuania (34%). The subject is considered of "little importance" by 3% of the British and Lithuanians and "not very important" by 11% of British and 2% of Greeks and Portuguese.The farming policy should concentrate on ensuring quality and safety of farm produce, to offer a decent standard of living to farmers and reasonable prices to consumers, to protect the environment and cope with the challenges of climate changes, the CE study shows. It also mentions that 46% of Europeans think agriculture already has a major contribution to fighting climate changes and most Europeans (82%) consider EU should help farmers change the way they work to help fight this phenomenon.
