Publish date: 29-03-2010
Vice President of the European Commission, Neelie Kroes, European Commissioner for digital agenda, appreciated the coherence of the e-Romania project and advised the Romanian Minister of Communications and Information Society (MCSI), Gabriel Sandu, to present it at the upcoming informal meeting of the EU communication ministers, to take place over April 18-20, in Granada, informs a release of the MCSI.
Gabriel Sandu on Friday discussed in Brussels with Neelie Kroes, who has only recently took over the responsibilities of the European Commissioner operating in the information technology field. During the meeting, the Romanian head of Communications presented the national projects in the field of information society, projects which are in line with objectives agreed by the European Commission through the EU 2020 Strategy and the Digital Agenda.
The two also discussed on the infringement procedures currently opened against Romanian, agreeing that solving them is a common objective to be achieved in the shortest while.
Given the importance of achieving a single market at the EU level, the two officials have set the premises for direct cooperation in respect to implementing the national broadband strategy, the radio spectrum strategy (the spectrum of frequencies represents an opportunity for the development of broadband infrastructure in Europe), universal service (with the introduction of broadband in the universal service area being one of the main topics of open public consultation at European level).
