Romania's trade deficit for farm produce down by 27 percent over 11 months
Publish date: 18-02-2010Romania registered a farm produce deficit amounting to 1.373 billion euros, over January-November 2009, down by over 27 percent (almost 511 million euros) compared with the similar period of 2008, according to the data provided to Agerpres by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR). Over the same period of 2008, the farm produce deficit exceeded 1.884 billion euros. According to MADR, over 11 months in 2009, the farm produce imports amounted to 3.403 billion euros, 11 percent less compared with 2008, when they amounted to 3.829 billion euros.In exchange, Romania's exports to the European Union countries and to the extra-community ones are up by 4.3 percent compared with the same period of 2008, amounting to 2.029 billion euros at the end of November 2009.The European Union is the main partner in Romania's agricultural trade, the farm produce exports to this destination accounting for 77 percent, and the imports from the EU member states accounting for 80 percent.
