Romanian Leu Ends Up Vs Euro On Positive Intl Sentiment
Publish date: 05-01-2010On Monday, the leu closed at RON4.2170/RON4.2190, stronger from RON4.2350 on December 31.
"The foreign markets are dominated by a positive sentiment, leading to the appreciation of the leu," said a dealer in a Bucharest-based bank.
The leu opened at RON4.2370/RON4.2400 against the euro, similar with the closing value of December 31.
In the first trading hour, the leu gained ground, touching an early high at RON4.2180/RON4.22. Mid-session, it was trading at RON4.2250/RON4.2300 versus euro.
However, in the second part of the session, the leu recouped and touched the day's high at closing.
The central bank set the reference rate at RON4.2265, almost similar with RON4.2282 in the last day of 2009.
On the monetary market Monday, overnight rates were at 8.83%-9.33%, up on the day, while the weekly rates slightly grew to 9.48%-9.98%.
