Eurostat:Romania's trade deficit with USA stagnated in first quarter
Publish date: 05-11-2009Romania registered a balance of trade deficit of 109 million euros in the first half of the year, on the rise by 0.1% compared to the same period of 2008, while the EU trade excess with the US was reduced by half, according to Eurostat data. In the first half of 2008 Romania's trade deficit with the United States was 108 million euros. Romania exported goods of 164 million euros in the first 6 months of the year, on the drop by 34% compared to January-June 2008 and imported goods of 274 million euros, 23.5% less than in the first half of 2008. The balance of trade of the whole EU with the USA registered an excess of 16.4 billion euros in the first semester compared to an excess of 32.73 billion euros in the same period of 2008, when EU exports to the US market dropped by a fifth, to 101.9 billion euros, while imports dropped by 10% to 85 billion euros.However the US remained the most important EU partner, according to data of the European statistics office.Germany was biggest exporter to the US market, the value of goods sold being 27 billion euros, followed by Great Britain with 17 billion euros, and France with 10 billion euros. Great Britain was the biggest importer with 18 billion euros, followed by Germany (15 billion euros) and Holland (13 billion euros).
