Competition investigates arms tender
Publish date: 05-11-2009The Competition Council initiated an investigation about a possible understanding between the firms participating in the tenders organized by the Arms Department of the Defense Ministry.
The investigation refers to a possible understanding among four companies from Romania, Germany and Switzerland about the participation with tricked offers in the tenders organized by the Defense Ministry in 2005, 2006, 2007 for the purchase of infantry arms and optical equipment. "Such a deal could have very serious consequences by the overthrow of free competition and trade among member states as there were companies from Romania, EU and non EU countries. Such a commercial behaviour is against the provisions of Romanian law in the field of competition and the provisions of the CE Treaty, said Bogdan Chiritoiu, the chairman of the Competition Council. The competition law (21/1996) forbids any understandings among companies or associations of companies which have in view to remove competition, especially the ones which have in view the participation with tricked offers in tenders or any other competition of offers.
