Romanians, consulted by two separate ballots in referendum
Publish date: 27-10-2009Romanians will receive two ballots at the referendum scheduled for November 22, by which they will be consulted about switching to unicameral legislature and to the reduction of the number of MPs to 300 at most, said interim minister of interior and administration Vasile Blaga in a news conference held at Victoria Palace.
In an extraordinary meeting the interim government adopted in this respect the referendum's organisational framework on switching from bicameral to unicameral parliament on October 22 at the same time with the first round of the presidential elections.
'For this reason there will be two ballots. Maybe some people will want the reduction of the number of MPs seats to 300 at most, but would like to have bicameral parliament, whereas others might want a single chamber and the reduction of the number of parliamentarians. We have to give the citizens the opportunity to voice their viewpoints,' said Blaga.
According to the Government Decision adopted on Friday, there will be three ballot boxes in the polling stations - one for the votes for presidential elections and other two for the referendum.
The adopted normative act stipulates that the stamps of the electoral offices, the control stamp, the stamp with the ' voted' inscription at the national referendum are the same with those from the parliamentary elections.
The decree on the organisation of the referendum on switching from bicameral to unicameral parliament and the reduction of MPs seats to maximum 300 was signed on Thursday by President Traian Basescu and published in the same day in the Official Journal, Agerpres reposrts.
