Marketing managers earn more than colleagues amid crisis
Publish date: Astazi, 04-09-2009Marketing managers are the best-paid multinational managers in the year of the crisis, earning 5-10 percent more than their colleagues in other departments. The best paid marketing managers are in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector, where salaries at this level are some 40 percent higher than in the financial, IT, and industrial sectors, according to the results of a Mercer salary study, finalized by the Consulteam company in mid-August.
"For middle management positions in marketing, we noticed a change in the salary level, compared to other departments. If last year Corporate Affairs and Financial departments were on a higher level to that of marketing, this year the middle management in marketing has a higher wage level, closely followed by IT, human resources, and financial," the Country Manager of Consulteam, Oana Botolan Datki, told Business Standard.
The explanation for this switch is the essential role of marketing amid economic crisis. "Before [the crisis], they had very large budgets, and the job was easy. Since budgets were cut, they had to come up with new ways of promotion, they had to get creative," the General Manager of Talent Stream company, Dan Berteanu, said. According to the Managing Partner of Stanton Chase Romania headhunting company, Mihaela Damian, the net monthly salaries of marketing managers vary between €2,500 in small enterprises and €5,000 in multinationals.
