INS: Construction authorizations for residential buildings by 22.6 pc less than in July

The number of construction authorizations for residential buildings declined in July by 22.6 per cent to 4158 compared to the same month of 2008 and by 4.8 per cent compared to June, whereas, regarding the first seven months of the year, the decline was 19.4 per cent, according to the data released by National Institute of Statistics (INS), Mediafax informs.

Thus, in July, there were by 1,321 fewer construction authorizations issued for residential buildings than in the same month of the previous year, a drop reflected in all development regions. The most important drops were reported for Bucharest - Ilfov Development Region (-380 authorizations), Sud Muntenia Development Region (-304 authorizations), Sud Est (-203 authorizations) and Nord Est (-190 authorizations), based on INS press release. More than 64 per cent of the authorizations released in July were for rural regions. Compared to June 2009, in July, the regional breakdown outlines a declining trend in the number of construction authorizations issued for residential buildings in almost all development regions, the most significant ones being in Sud Muntenia (-170 authorizations). Within January - July, 28,382 authorizations were issued for residential constructions, down by 19.4 per cent compared to the similar time interval of the previous year. The most significant drops were reported in Bucharest - Ilfov Development Region (-2032 authorizations), Sud Muntenia (-1087 authorizations), Nord Est (-796 authorizations) and Sud Est (-708 authorizations).

Less tourists in Bulgaria

The number of Romanians who chose to spend holiday in Bulgaria or who transited this country declined by 33.6 per cent compared to the same time interval of the previous year, whereas Romania had by 7 per cent more Bulgarian tourists, according to National Statistics Institute from Sofia.

In July, 16,200 Bulgarian tourists visited Romania and 79,200 Romanians went to the neighboring country. 135,000 Bulgarians traveled outside the border for leisure time in July, the preferred destinations being Greece, Serbia, Romania and Turkey.
