600,000 Romanians - outstanding debts with banks
Publish date: 27-08-2009An increasing number of Romanians is unable to pay their debts to the banks. Thus, the number of those for whom liabilities exceeding 30 days for loans were reported was over 600,000 in June and the cumulated payment delays are RON 1.8 bln worth, Mediafax informs citing the data of Credit Bureau published by BNR.
These liabilities account for almost double compared to the end of last year. In June 2008, the outstanding debts amounted to RON 702.9 M. There were 602,549 individuals with liabilities over 30 days at loans at the end of the first six months, by 3 per cent more than in May and by 34 per cent more compared to end of last year.
The lowest decline in the first six months was reported for extra-balance sheet loans, most of them regarded as loss by banks. Thus, the liabilities of households for extra - balance sheet loans advanced by 13 per cent in the first half of the year, from RON 90.87 M to RON 102.79 M. The outstanding debts of households ranging from 31 to 60 days were amounting to RON 78.9 M, at the end of June, more than two times more compared to RON 39.1 M at the end of last year. The value of liabilities with delays of loan payments between 61 and 90 days advanced by 2.1 times in the first half of the year, from RON 36.5 M in December 2008 to more than RON 78 M. Data is supplied to Credit Bureau by 30 banks and by 12 non banking financial institutions since January this year.
