The blanket salary law: over 100,000 civil servants will benefit from salary hikes

The draft Blanket Salary Law was completed by the Labor Ministry, based on the financial impact analysis made by the Finance Ministry, and the increase of the minimum salary will raise the wages of at least 100,000 civil servants, the state secretary in the Labour Ministry, Valentin Mocanu announced, quoted by Antena 3.

"The Labour Ministry finalized the draft Blanket Salary Law after it received the last data from the Finance Ministry, based upon the analysis of the financial impact that will follow the enforcing of the new wage table. Some modifications were made in the table, with respect to the positions held by various categories of civil servants," Valentin Mocanu explained.

According to the source, the draft Law will be analyzed during Wednesday's Cabinet meeting. Political sources declared that the act might be previously discussed today, in the meeting of the coalition. On the other hand, the Labour Ministry official added that the salaries of at least 100,000 state employees might increase next year, as a consequence of raising the minimum salary in the economy. "Along with increasing the minimum salary, the wages that are below the new value in the table must go up. Between 100,000 and 150,000 civil servants will benefit from salary increases, depending on the value to be decided for the minimum salary," Mocanu pointed out. The new salary law will lead to a paradox. According to daily 'Evenimentul Zilei', what the state gains now by operating massive layoffs from among state budget employees will be lost after the wages of the remaining employees will be increased.

Labour Minister Marian Sarbu last week announced that the minimum salary in the economy will go up 25 pc from its current value and the measure will come into effect the first day of next year.
