Romania's leu climbs to 4.19 per euro yesterday on regional trend
Publish date: 02-07-2009The national currency kept growing before noon and then dropped anchor close to 4.19 per euro, while regional currencies headed up more vigorously.
The leu moved by 0.48 percent before 1 p.m. from 4.21 to 4.19 versus the euro, after which it lost ground and at 5:00 p.m. banks were buying an euro for 4.1890 lei and selling it for 4.1960 lei.
A more pronounced climbing tendency was seen in the Polish zloty, which won 1.78 percent from 4.4585 to 4.3790 per euro. The Hungarian forint rose by 0.92 percent, from 272.75 to 270.25 per euro.
The reference exchange rate announced yesterday by BNR stands at 4.1892 lei per euro, 0.42 percent lower than the 4.2067 level posted yesterday. The central bank has not published such a low exchange rate since June 1, when it stood at 4.1817 lei per euro.
The leu-dollar rapport was yesterday of 2.9779, 0.04 percent up from yesterday's 2.9792.
On international markets, the dollar rose from 1.4002 to 1.4170 per euro and at 5 p.m. Romania's hour, the euro was traded for 1.4150 dollars.
Interbank interests for overnight deposits lowered to 9-9.5 percent, over the key interest rate of 9 percent, established yesterday by BNR.
