INS: Inflation of 0.01 pc in May

The inflation rate was 0.01 per cent in May, compared to April, while the annual inflation (May 2008-May 2009) dropped to 5.95 per cent, according to the data published yesterday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS), Agerpres informs. In April, the inflation rate was 0.27 per cent, while the annual inflation (April 2008-April 2009) was 6.45 per cent. According to INS, the monthly average inflation rate during January 1 - May 31, 2009 was 0.6 per cent, similar to the same period of 2008.

Compared to May 2008, the food became 4.02 per cent more expensive, the tariffs of the services rose 8.47 per cent, while the prices of the other commodities than food rose 6.59 per cent. The average growth of the prices as a whole in the last 12 months (June 2008-May 2009) against the previous 12 months (June 2007-May 2008) determined subject to IPC and that which was determined subject to the harmonized index of the consumer prices (IAPC) is 7.2 per cent. The National Bank revised downward by 0.1 percentage points the inflation projection for 2009, from 4.5 per cent, in the quarterly report from February 2009, to 4.4 per cent. The inflation projection for 2010 was also revised downward 0.4 percentage points, from 3.2 per cent to 2.8 per cent.
