A quarter of Romanians, namely 25%, fear they might lose their jobs in 2009, in the fallout of the economic crisis, while 15% of Romanians fear they might not afford to pay their bills, according to a survey conducted in January by market research company Synovate.

People aged 45 to 54, who live in towns with 10,000-50,000 inhabitants, have average education and live on both average and high income, fear job loss the most.

People who fear they might not afford to pay their bills, namely 15% of respondents, come second in the survey, while people aged 55 to 65, who live on low income, in towns with 10,000-50,000 inhabitants, mainly fear they might not be able to pay their bills.

Moreover, 6% of respondents fear they might not be able to provide for their family, 5% fear they might not be able to pay their mortgage, installments or for medicines, 2% fear they might lose their investments, while other 6% of respondents fear they might need to say goodbye to vacations.

At the same time, 18% of Romanians are not at all afraid of what the future may bring, especially young people aged up to 24 and people living in towns with over 150,000 inhabitants.

Half of respondents, namely 52%, see the country's economy going from bad to worse.

The survey was conducted on a sample of 1,000 people.
