Foreign investors continued to contribute to the capital of their Romanian branches in November, with the value of their capital contributions being nearly 40% higher than in the same month of 2007, despite the international financial crisis.

Foreign investments in the form of contributions to Romanian companies amounted to 263 million euros in November, compared with 189 million euros in the same month last year, according to data provided by the National Trade Registry Office (ONRC). In the first eleven months of 2008, the value of foreign investments amounted to 3.7 billion euros, almost double against January-November 2007, when capital increases amounted to 2.07 billion euros.

Lucian Liviu Albu, director of the Romanian Academy's Institute for Economic Forecasting, says this leap in foreign investments was the result of foreign investors paying heed to the analysts' statements that the effects of the international financial crisis would be felt at a later date in Romania.
