Romania's financial sector climbs 2.9% on closing, mirrors European markets
Publish date: 12-01-2009The main indexes of the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BSE) posted significant hikes today of up to 2.9 percent on the financial sector, with brokers saying investors await a trend shift on the mature markets.
Liquidity fell 28 percent to 15.97 million lei (3.79 million euros) from 22.32 million lei in the previous session.
The BET index of the ten best companies on BSE grew 1.96 percent to 2,749.67 and the BET-C composite index measuring all listed shares minus financial companies added 1.28 percent to 1,853.50.
The BET-FI index of the five financial companies known as SIF rose 2.88 percent to 13,727.39 and the ROTX index for trading blue chips in Vienna increased 1.18 percent to 5,789.89.
The BET-XT index of the 25 most liquid stocks soared 2.16 percent to 272.66 and the BET-NG index of the ten power companies on the market nudged up 1.99 percent to 382.05.
European markets took an ascendant flow at the closing hour in Bucharest, with the FTSE index in London rising 0.32 percent to 4,519.57, the DAX index in Frankfurt climbing 0.74 percent to 4,916.15 and the CAC40 index in Paris adding 0.63 percent to 3,345.38.
In Bucharest, the fifth lender by assets Banca Transilvania (TLV) climbed 4.39 percent today to 1.19 lei, generating the highest liquidity of 3.68 million lei.
The largest company in Romania, Petrom (SNP), decreased 1.03 percent to 0.1920 lei.
Financial company SIF Banat-Crisana (SIF1) soared 5.79 percent to 0.64 lei, SIF Moldova (SIF2) appreciated 0.88 percent to 0.575 le, SIF Transilvania (SIF3) added 2.98 percent to 0.311 lei and SIF Oltenia (SIF5) gained 2.38 percent to 0.645 lei.
