Bucharest Stock Exchange sinks to new record low, following worse crisis on the financial markets
Publish date: 28-10-2008Panic prompted by massive drops on the Asian bourses paved the way to indexes' crash on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BSE) and forced the bourse's board to suspend session again for half an hour, after the BET index slipped to the maximum variation limit.
Liquidity reduced 18 percent today, to 21.50 million lei (5.38 million euros), from 26.45 million lei in the previous session.
The BET index of the ten best companies on BSE dropped 7.84 percent to 2,596.30 and the BET-C composite index assessing all listed shares without financial companies lowered 8.28 percent to 1,949.42.
The BET-FI index of the five financial companies known as SIF plunged 9.81 percent to 10,012.26 and the ROTX index for trading blue chips in Vienna decreased 6.66 percent to 6,067.73.
The BET-NG index of the 25 most liquid companies dropped 7.97 percent to 243.66 and the BET-NG index mirroring the ten power companies fell 10.95 percent to 303.03.
The BET index collapse paved the way to another suspension of transactions
BSE decided to suspend transactions for half an hour this morning, as the BET index plunged to the maximum admitted variation.
Transactions were stopped at 10:38 a.m. and resumed at 11:10 a.m. with a pre-opening session, the markets being opened at 11:25 a.m.
