Businessman George Becali, financer of Steaua Bucharest football club, says he owns 10,000 hectares in the southern Romanian Dobrogea region, where he plans to develop wind energy projects.

Becali indicated that he and his Spanish associates intend to access European funds to build "the largest wind energy project in Romania. I can invest several hundred million euro to produce wind energy. I own a few companies through which I plan to access European funds," said Becali. Meanwhile, several legal representatives of investors interested in wind energy projects in Dobrogea, including international investment funds and energy giants, have told Business Standard that although they are willing to allocate important funding to produce energy locally, they cannot access lands "because of Becali's people."
