Orange Romania, largest mobile phone operator in terms of turnover and clients, increased income by 8.8 percent in the first half of this year, to €321 million, while its client base reached 10.088 million, 18 percent higher than in H1 2007.

The growth rate is some three times lower than that in 2007. "The elements that influenced the Romanian telecommunication market in the first half of the year were the market's maturation and strong competition, which determined operators to intensify their efforts to attract new clients," said Richard Moat, CEO of Orange Romania,

According to Moat, the financial market crisis did not affect the Romanian telecom market. The number of broadband clients soared 135 percent, by 1.129 million. Last year, Orange income was subject to a 24.3 percent growth rate, to €1.234 billion.
