BNR increases key interest to 10.25%
Publish date: 01-08-2008The Romanian National Bank (BNR) increased key interest from 10 to 10.25 percent, taking the financial market by complete surprise. BNR also decided not to modify the level of mandatory minimum reserves.
Most analysts questioned by Business Standard expected BNR to maintain the key interest at its current level, already the highest of all European Union member states for the past three years. This is the seventh increase operated by BNR in the past nine months. From October 2007 until now, BNR increased key interest rate by a total of 3.25 percent.
