Romania's leu ups to 3.71 per euro, pending the central bank's decision over the monetary policy
Publish date: 31-01-2008Romania's leu climbed to 3.71 against Europe's single currency today in the light of the monetary policy decisions of the Federal Reserve and the Central Bank of Romania, dealers said.
Banks sold 1 euro for 3.7550 lei this morning. The leu climbed to 3.7195 lei per euro and slipped to 3.7375 lei per euro. The national currency stood at 3.7050-3.7105 lei per euro at the end of the day.
BNR collected today five-day deposits totaling 200 million lei, with an interest of 8 percent per year.
The U.S. dollar was traded from 1.4756 to 1.4818 U.S. dollars per euro on the international markets, while at 5:20 p.m Romania's hour the euro stood at 1.4785 U.S. dollars.
The interbank interest rates for overnight deposits exceeded the monetary policy rate, on lower liquidity on the market.
