Publish date: 18-01-2008The representative of the Ministry of Economy and Finance agreed with the experts of the European Commission on the new level of the registration tax, advisor with Minister of Economy and Finance Dana Daraban told Rompres.
According to the source, the two sides discussed technical details on the tax, the new form including all EC suggestions. The Government will adopt a decision on the matter by January 31.
'The Commission's experts analysed the documents sent by the Romanian authorities. The proposal takes into consideration all observations of the Commission, the new formula of the pollution tax providing better correlation of the tax level with the car's market value. The Romanian side wanted to consult the EU experts also when drawing up the methodological norms, a fact agreed by the Commission. Upon these circumstances, the infringement procedure can now be suspended,' the source informs.
A meeting of experts between the Romanian side and the representatives of the EC Directorate General of Taxation and Customs Union on this issue was held on Wednesday in Brussels.
The two sides spoke about the new variant of the registration tax suggested by the Bucharest Government in the January 9 meeting. The Romanian side sent to Brussels all the documentation, the head of Department for European Affairs Adrian Ciocanea told a press conference on Tuesday.
The Bucharest Government decided on January 9 to bring modifications to the registration tax, as the European Commission started the infringement procedure against Romania early next year, considering it inconsistent with the EU Treaty provisions. The European Commission started the second stage of the procedure in November.
