Approximately ten million Romanians, aged over 15 years old, are not customers of any bank, exceeding the number of natural persons who have contracts with credit institutions, according to Erste Bank data.

The number of Romanians, aged over 15 years old, who are not customers of a bank amounts to 9.9 million persons, while the banked population numbers 8.4 million people, according to data from the Austrian group. Romania's un-banked population is one of the largest in the region, after Ukraine's, which amounts to 19 million persons. Ukraine is also on the last place as regards the banked population, which reaches 18 million people.

The weight of the banked population is on a steady increase, both in Romania, and in the other states in the area, Erste shows. The high number of people in the Central and East-European region who do not deal with banks represents a high retail potential for the credit institutions.
