Basescu: Our ambition is to make sure that NATO Summit is a success
Publish date: Astazi, 14-01-2008President Traian Basescu voiced on Friday Bucharest authorities' ambition that the NATO Summit, to take place in April, will be a successful one.
During the meeting between the head of state and NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, at Cotroceni Palace, topics linked to the April summit's agenda were approached, starting from the reality that this meeting will be, most likely, according to Traian Basescu, the largest in the North Atlantic Alliance history.
'The summit plans to seek solutions for Afghanistan, for the enlargement projects, for the member states' security, for forging security in the Black Sea region and for energy problems. We must make progress from the summit in Riga, organized last year, in the autumn.
Beyond enlargement, the summit also plans to bring closer to NATO states, such as Serbia, Bosnia Herzegovina and Montenegro', stated Traian Basescu at the end of talks held with the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance.
The head of state reiterated, on this occasion, that 'Romania supports without reservation NATO enlargement with another three countries - Croatia, Macedonia and Albania - and, at the same time, backs up the idea according to which more attention should be paid to finding better solutions in the case of Georgia and even Ukraine'.
