Yahoo! enters the Romanian market
Publish date: 12-12-2007The Yahoo! portal is to launch on the Romanian market early next year, market sources told Business Standard. The first official announcement is to be made by the end of the year.
Cafe company, the exclusive representative of Yahoo! in Romania, is to handle the portal’s media relations after its launch on the local market. “It will probably include providing content, as the portal will not only have Yahoo!-generated content,” sources said. They added that Yahoo! representatives have held talks with officials of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology Ministry (MCTI).
State Secretary Zoltan Somodi confirmed the talks for Business Standard. He said a meeting with Yahoo! England was held in early November, when representatives of the web portal were collecting and analyzing data related to the opportunity to open a software development center in the region. “Romania has Real chances, with main advantages being that it is a member of the EU and part of the common market, with a highly qualified and cheaper labor force, and an emerging market,” Somodi said.
