Bucharesters, Romania's major bank debtors

Bucharest individuals and companies are the biggest bank loan defaulters nationwide, as they account for nearly one-third of the amount of credit debtors reported in late September of this year, according to the study "The local-profile financial behaviour of the population and economic operators," published by the National Bank of Romania, Rompres reports.

Credit arrears in RON and EUR reported to the BNR at the end of September come to RON 989.11 M, of which RON 703.604 M loans are RON loans and RON 285.514 M are the RON equivalent of EUR loans. The defaulting residents and companies from Cluj, Iasi and Brasov rank second, third and fourth respectively. Personal bank loans by late September came to a total of over 60.6 bln RON-equivalent, of which 47.45 bln RON-equivalent, or 78 per cent, were consumer credits. Companies took RON and EUR loans in excess of 65.62 bln RON-equivalent. Companies made RON loans equal to RON 30.629 bln and hard currency loans worth 34.997 bln RON-equivalent.
