Over 1,900 employees to be dismissed after the liquidation of Tractorul Brasov
Publish date: Astazi, 26-02-2007Brasov - The General Assembly of the Shareholders has decided to commence the liquidation procedures at Tractorul Brasov Factory.
The liquidation procedures will include the dismissal of over 1,900 employees, although the initial figure was of 1,573 employees. Dismissals will be made in two phases: 1,800 employees will leave the factory during March 1 and April 14, in accordance with the decision of the Government, while another 123 will be laid off within six months of February 14, the date of publishing in the Official Gazette of the exception from the insolvency law for a period of six months, Gheorghe Apostolu, the leader of the union declared Friday for Mediafax.
The members of the trade unions from Tractorul, Rulmentul and Nitromania Fagaras will organize today at 12 a.m. a protest march and a meeting in front of the Prefect’s Office. Representatives of the National Trade Union will join this meeting as well. The trade unions from Tractorul and Rulmentul Brasov have developed several other protest actions from the beginning of the year claiming the pay of the wage debts and of the monetary rights until the collective dismissals. On Friday, during the meeting of the General Assembly of the Shareholders, an employee has threatened the management that he would set himself on fire. His gesture was generated by problems related to the work dwelling, according to statements made by Apostolu.
The president of the Authority for the Capitalization of State’s Assets (AVAS) Teodor Atanasiu, told Saturday a press conference held at Alba-Iulia, that a number of Romanian and foreign investors are interested by the shares of Tractorul Brasov after the voluntary liquidation of the company. Gigi Becalli, Paunescu brothers, Atlassib and Mahindra&Mahindra were mentioned among the investors interested in the acquisition of the factory. “We hope that after this liquidation of assets and equipment, the production of tractors from Brasov will continue under the label of UTB (Tractors Factory and Spare parts).”Atanasiu declared during the conference.
The shareholders of Tractorul Brasov are: ACSA (The Authority for the Capitalization of State’s Assets) with 80.18 per cent, SIF Transylvania with 17.15 per cent and other shareholders with a total figure of 2.67 per cent.
