With the appointment of the third winner of the 3G licence, namely RCS&RDS company, the competition on telecom market becomes even more powerful, therefore more and more companies will come up with offers as tempting as possible for their clients. “The competition level in local telecom market will increase significantly and I think changes on the market will continue. RCS&RDS has obtained the 3G licence and announces to launch the services in February 2007, and it is also interesting to watch the way in which those from Telecom will exploit the 3G licence,” stated Orange general manager Richard Moat for Monday’s issue of “Ziarul Financiar”. However, he thinks the current local market allows enough room for an increase, in spite of the high degree of competition.

A new major player – the biggest challenge for telecom market

Moat reiterated the statement given to Nine O’clock recently saying that in his view the biggest changes in the telecom market would be provoked by the entrance of a new major player, through the acquisition of another local communication company. “I think the most uncertainties on the local telecom market would be determined by the change of the owner of any of the players from the local telecom market, a thing that I consider possible, also taking into account the rumours that have circulated lately on the market. If an operator changes its owner and if another major international operator enters the market, things will obviously change significantly on the local market,” Moat explained. According to “Ziarul Financiar,” rumours showed as possible purchase targets the companies RCS&RDS and Telemobil, yet the pieces of information were denied by the officials of the two companies.

Tariffs in EUR

Orange mobile phone operator announces that, starting on Monday, the company’s tariffs have been changed from USD into EUR, fulfilling the official rates of exchange announced by the National Bank of Romania on January 8. The same rates of exchange were also used in transforming in EUR the current credit of the Orange PrePay account and the credit expressed in USD offered by the rechargeable card. Orange Romania strategy concerning the change of the reference currency from USD into EUR took into account the adoption of the currency used by the France Telecom Group. There were excepted from the automatic conversion, in favour of the clients, the following: the USD 4 subscription, which became EUR 3 subscription, the USD 0.07 tariff for national SMS, which became EUR 0.05, the USD 19 for one MMS, which became EUR 0.14.
